The monument was erected in 1893 by the Woman’s Humane Association to commemorate the heroic efforts of Hayne's. Hayne was an English civil engineer who lost his life during the 1890 fire of Texas Spring Palace while rescuing people that were trapped inside the burning building.

[Three arches at the Ashton Depot]

Description: Photograph of three arches at Ashton Depot, formerly known as both Santa Fe and Fort Worth Union Depot, located at 1501 Jones Street, in Fort Worth. The arches are made out of brick and have strips of wood over top of the brick, creating a sunburst pattern at the curves of the arches, and horizontal stripes at the bottoms. Description: Photograph of an exterior detail at the Ashton Depot, formerly known as Santa Fe Depot and Fort Worth Union Depot, at 1501 Jones Street in Fort Worth, Texas. The focus of the photo is a brick wall with four visible, arched windows. Obscuring the view from said wall is a metal fence that stands very close to the camera. Another wall also obscured the view of the brick one, and it is marked by time with peeling paint and scuffs all over it. A lamppost sits on top of this wall.
