Church 1945 Storm

Description: Photograph of the Danevang Lutheran Church after a hurricane. A paved step, a window and a door, which make up part of the front facade of the building, are still standing. The rest of the church has suffered considerable damage. Various construction materials - walls, siding, shingles, etc. - surround the standing structure. There is a small tree off to the left. Rough hand-written text in blue ink on the front of the photograph reads, "Danevang, Texas - After hurricane - 1945 church."

Description: Letter from Harris L. Kempner to E. Perkins McGuire discussing general conditions in Galveston and asking about whether Katy is in Boston, suggestions for a Frenchman looking for American firms and about the nature of their award recommendations. A post script notifies McGuire about a shipment of figs being sent for Christmas due to there being no card with the figs.

[Letter from Chauncey D. Leake to I. H. Kempner, January 19, 1945]

Description: Letter from Chauncey D. Leake to I. H. Kempner discussing the "Princeton Plan" for faculty housing with Mr. Kempner. Leake is familiar with the plan because it was used when he was a student at Princeton. The plan involves private investors building housing on university land. The project is financed through bonds and the property is eventually transferred to the university. Leake believes the plan would be worthwhile for the University of Texas.
