Description: Photograph of a group of boys and girls of various ages standing with Custer Cox in front of the door of a schoolhouse. The group is arranged in three rows, with younger children standing in the front and middle rows and older children standing on either side of Custer Cox in the back row. Cox is wearing a suit with a boutonniere and stiff white collar. The children in the front row are barefoot. A handwritten note on the reverse side of the mat says "Custer might be teacher."

[Ringling Brothers Circus in Cleburne, Texas]

Description: Photograph of the Ringling Brothers Circus in Cleburne, Texas, parading through the downtown. There are several elephants visible walking in a line and two ornate tableau wagons, each drawn by a team of four horses. There is a large crowd in front of the shops lining the street.

Gate-Hinge.

Description: Patent for an inclined gate-hinges. One part is "secured to the supporting-post or upright and is formed with two parallel loops slightly separated one from the other located just outside the recess in said post, and the other [part is] adapted to be secured to the gate, having an outwardly-extending arm and a cross-head adapted to be passed between and parallel loops and to bear against the rear surface thereof" (lines 94-102).

Description: Patent for a permutation-padlock that "has for its object to provide a simple, inexpensive, and efficient construction and arrangement of parts whereby the bolt is firmly held in its locked position, and whereby the combinations may be changed with facility, and without opening the lock-casing" (lines 8-14).

Construction of Doors or Window-Sashes.

Description: Patent for "improvements in the construction of doors and window-sashes, the object being to provide a door or window-sash which shall be constructed of two pieces of timber united by means of a key to prevent warping or twisting" (lines 8-13). The panel of the door or the pane of glass can also be united by the key. This design lightens and cheapens doors and window-sashes.
