Description: Patent for a stem for tobacco-pipes and cigar-holders designed to prevent nicotine from being inhaled. "The object in view is to provide a stem consisting of detachable members to facilitate cleansing when foul" (lines 11-14). The pipe is a serpentine shape and contains cotton filters in its crooks.

Description: Patent for a hay-press where "the plunger or traverser is arranged in a suitable frame and is drawn toward its rearward position by means of a spring. rods are connected to the opposite sides of the plunger or traverser, and these are in turn connected to a cross-head, which in turn is connected with a pitman provided on its outer end with a hook that engages mechanism to give it a motion which imparts a reciprocating motion to the plunger" (lines 15-25).

Description: Patent for an improvement in fiber machines that is "adaptable to fibers of various plants; but it is especially designed for separating the fiber of plants found in Mexico--such as lechugilla, Spanish dagger, and similar plants" (lines 28-32). Improvement in Cotton-Presses

Description: Patent for a new and improved Cotton-Press. The invention relates to the press on which a Patent (No. 150,573) was granted May 5, 1874, to William B. Hollowell. It consists of a duplicate master-wheel on the drum for working the follower; also an improved contrivance for connecting the pitman to the lever and to its pivot, whereby the machine is rendered more efficient and may be lighter for a given strength.

The cooler is a chest with water in it and containers with absorbent material around the bottom of the containers that sits in the water. The outer chest is metal, and a container sits underneath to catch drips.
