[Antique Carriage in a Parade]

Description: Photograph of a black, old-fashioned carriage transporting costumed passengers in League City's sesquicentennial parade in honor of Texas' 150th birthday. The four passengers, seated in the rear cab of the carriage, are wearing clothing in the style of the mid-1800s. In keeping with the theme, the driver, who is seated in the front cab, is wearing a curly-haired wig. With the reins in hand, he drives the wagon down the major road in League City where the parade took place.

"One object of the present invention is to improve the construction of tongue-supports and to provide a simple, inexpensive, and efficient device designed to be connected with the ends of a doubletree and with the front axle and capable of supporting the front portion of the tongue or pole in an elevated position to relieve the neck of the draft- animals of the weight of the same" (lines 10-18). Description: Patent for a buckle "wherein a closed frame or box is employed that is formed with a smooth exterior surface to avoid contact with and injury to the animals on which it is used, and prevent the reins from contacting therewith, and dispensing with the use of a guard thereover; and at the same time producing a secure fastening that is applied to straps without the necessity of the employment of stitches or other modes of fastening" (lines 9-18).
