His grandson, on the left, wears a light-colored suit with a polka dot necktie. A handwritten note on the back reads, "Dr. J. B. McFerrin was the uncle of Mrs. M. F. Barcus. Rev. Dr. John Berry McFerrin. June 15, 1807, Rutherford Co., Tenn. - May 10, 1887, Nashville, Tenn. Noted Methodist pastor."
