Rev. J. H. Hudson was a nineteenth-century religious leader in Marshall. Born in Alabama in 1839, he came to Texas as a slave in 1848, and was reared on a farm near Scottsville [near Marshall]. He never attended school, but was taught his letters and nurtured in his faith by other pastors. He was ordained in 1881.
