The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Owen Fluckey. Fluckey joined the Navy in April 1944. Fluckey recalls hearing the news of the attack on Pearl Harbor when he was 16. He trained at Great lakes, Illinois and recalls a few humorous incidents. Fluckey served at a weather station on Clipperton Island for nine months before transferring to a submarine tender.
