Description: Patent for a new and improved end-gate fastener. This design "consists in the hook-ended lever-buckle . . . for drawing up and fastening the ends of chains used on presses, wagons, and other places where a simple and convenient device that can be readily and quickly operated is needed" (lines 8-13).

Car Coupling.

Description: Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design "consists in the construction and combination of the parts . . . the object of [the] invention being to provide a car-coupler which will automatically couple the cars to each other without the use of links or pins, and which is provided with means whereby the car can be uncoupled from the top of the car" (lines 17-25).
