Cattle-Guard.

Description: Patent for a cattle guard consisting of pivoted metal plates, mounted longitudinally on rail ties that rock to an inclined position when stepped on by an animal. The displacement of the plates causes a portion of the plate to come into contact with the foot of the animal, frightening it and preventing the animal from crossing the cattle guard.

Awful hot and dusty here. Am following the Bosque and Brazos Rivers and am finding plenty of gravel. Every mountain is gravel. May go fishing awhile tonight. Goodbye. Hamlett."
