Description

These are two separate photographs on the front and back of the same sheet. The photograph on the front is of a man, identified as Soren (Sam) Brodsgaard, holding the reins of two mules. One of the mules is facing the man; the other is facing the camera. The man is wearing denim overalls over a light-colored tank top and a hat. They stand on an empty, dirt road. A single-story structure is off to the left in the background, and a short fence is in the distance. Hand-written text in pencil on the back of the photograph reads, "Sam and his beloved mules". The photograph on the back is of a group of children in a rope pulling contest. They are separated by gender, with the boys' team on the left side and the girls' team on the right side. A smaller child appears to be acting as a mediator between the two. They are standing barefoot in an empty lot with short grasses in the background and a broken-down fence in the far distance. The silhouette shadows of a few other people are seen in the foreground. Hand-written text in pencil on the front of the photograph is not easily legible, but part of the text reads, "...to see which is the strongest"
